Follow Up - OCTOBER 13th, 2011 - SMART Online Event: INCREASING RAILWAY CAPACITY: IDEAS FOR THE FP7 SST CALL

The main goal of this online training was to provide useful and strategic information about different aspects of one of the three main sectors in surface transport:  the RAILWAY SECTOR.
The first session was the description about the strategy, designed by ERRAC, to help revitalising the European rail sector and make it more competitive, by fostering increased innovation and guiding research efforts at European level. After that, CIAOTECH, the coordinator of the SMART project, was given an overview of the current  SST 2012 Call, in particular the topics related to rail research.  The third session introduced the MAINLINE PROJECT (co-funded by FP7), which aims to provide benefits which will come from keeping existing rail infrastructure safely in service through the application of technologies and interventions based on life cycle considerations. 

Finally, organizations belonging to the SMART community presented their experiences in projects  and new ideas for proposals in the railway sector.
